Éigse Loch Lao was founded in 2010 by the University of Ulster and Cumann Cultúrtha Mhic Reachtain with the aim of celebrating and advancing Irish-language scholarship and literature in the city of Belfast through an annual series of events both scholarly/literary and social. The name Éigse Loch Lao (‘Literary assembly of Belfast Lough’) invokes the words of a ninth-century Irish poem composed from a vantage point over Loch Lao/ Belfast Lough.
Éigse Loch Lao will run over one day this year, Saturday 7th of October 2017 from 10 a.m. All lectures, discussions and debates will take place in the Conor Lecture Theatre, Ulster University, Belfast where ‘Language Legislation’ on these islands will be this years topic up for debate. A concert in Áras Mhic Reachtain will close proceedings with performances by Emma Ní Fhíoruisce and Spats Colombo. Concert starts at 8.30 p.m.
